Author Guidelines

Submission eligibility, structure, formatting and transparency of scientific reporting.

Authors should submit original and carefully prepared work aligned with ZAHRA’s scholarly focus on big data, data science, and artificial intelligence. Manuscripts must communicate a specific research question, explain their methods, present verifiable findings, acknowledge relevant prior work, and disclose material limitations. Submission is managed through the journal’s OJS platform.

1. Suitability, originality and manuscript language

  • The manuscript must be original and not simultaneously under review elsewhere. Related earlier publications, preprints, theses, or conference versions must be disclosed and cited where relevant.
  • The currently published website guidance permits submissions in Indonesian or English. Authors must ensure that titles, abstracts and metadata meet the journal’s accepted-language requirements; an updated English-only requirement must not be assumed without an adopted policy change.
  • The work must match the Aims and Scope and provide a genuine methodological, empirical, theoretical, or critical-review contribution.
  • All coauthors should approve authorship order, institutional affiliation, content, and the final version submitted. Identify the corresponding author accurately.

2. Currently published OJS formatting requirements

The public Author Guidelines currently specify the requirements below. They remain the website-based instructions until the editorial office formally adopts and publishes a harmonised replacement.

ItemCurrent website requirements
Manuscript length7–10 pages of A4 (210 × 297 mm), including figures and tables, without an appendix.
File typeMicrosoft Word (.doc or .docx); online submission through OJS.
Page layoutSingle column, justified Times New Roman 10 pt, single spacing. Website-listed margins: top 2.7 cm; left 2.54 cm; right 1 cm; bottom 1.75 cm.
Title and authorsTitle approximately 14 words, Times New Roman 15 pt bold, centred; list author names, affiliations and corresponding email.
Abstract and keywordsEnglish and Indonesian abstracts (“Intisari”) according to website instructions; English abstract at least 200 words. The website specifies 5–8 keywords.
ReferencesIEEE numbered citations and reference list; at least 10 references, with the website’s stated emphasis on recent primary research.

3. Additional specifications found in the supplied Word Article Template V2

The provided ZAHRA Word V2 template is also an important design reference. It contains different prescriptions from the current website text, which must be reconciled by the editorial office rather than combined into a contradictory mandatory checklist.

FeatureWord Article Template V2
Document styleA4, one-column Times layout; 20 pt sentence-case title; 11 pt bold author names.
AbstractEnglish abstract of 200–400 words; the example uses italic body text.
Keywords3–5 keywords.
Article sectionsIntroduction; Method; Results and Discussion; Conclusion; optional Acknowledgment; References.
ReferencesExpected minimum of 30 international references, predominantly at least 80% from Scopus-indexed journal articles.
Citation styleNumerical references in IEEE-style square brackets.
Template metadataReceived / Revised / Accepted / Available online dates, affiliations and corresponding-author details.
Important: The current public website and Article Template V2 disagree on title size, abstracts, keyword count and reference minimum. Until management publishes a unified policy, the currently posted OJS instructions should be treated as the operative submission requirements; the V2 template illustrates the prospective formatting standard. The Word file also carries an incorrect legacy footer e-ISSN of 2548-7779 on some pages; the correct ZAHRA e-ISSN is 2830-7984.

4. Scientific manuscript structure

  1. Title and author block: Communicate the central contribution concisely. Provide accurate author names, numbered affiliations and corresponding-author contact details.
  2. Abstract: Summarise motivation, the research objective, methods, quantitative or qualitative findings, and the principal conclusion, without citations, tables or figures.
  3. Introduction: Establish context, related studies, the unresolved research gap, objectives and clearly differentiated contribution.
  4. Method: Explain datasets and provenance, preparation, design, baseline methods, proposed approach, experimental environment, parameter settings and evaluation protocol.
  5. Results and Discussion: Report outcomes objectively, compare relevant methods, analyse errors and limitations, and distinguish observed effects from inferences.
  6. Conclusion: Answer the research objective, state the evidence-supported contribution and acknowledge meaningful limitations and future directions.
  7. References and disclosures: Provide complete citations, appropriate data/code/funding and ethical disclosures, and optional acknowledgments where justified.

5. Figures, tables, equations and reproducibility

  • Refer explicitly to each table and figure in the main narrative, describe what it demonstrates, and interpret its scientific relevance. Captions for figures appear below; captions for tables appear above.
  • Supply clear original charts or permitted third-party illustrations. Label axes, units, legends and experiment conditions so the figure is interpretable.
  • Use an equation editor for mathematical expressions, number equations sequentially, and define all symbols.
  • Report dataset origin, partitions, validation approach, metric definitions, implementation settings and limitations sufficiently for other researchers to evaluate the work.
  • Do not treat a matching similarity score as evidence of novelty; the manuscript must establish an original scientific contribution and provide attribution for reused materials.

6. References and scholarly integrity

Number citations in order of appearance using square brackets, for example [1] and [2]. Cite peer-reviewed and verifiable scholarly literature relevant to each claim. The website excludes Wikipedia, personal blogs and similar non-scholarly sources as substitutes for research evidence, and asks authors to prioritise recent primary work. Avoid inventing citations, DOIs or experimental results.

7. Submission checklist

  • The manuscript is complete, correctly formatted, anonymised when the double-blind workflow requires it, and within the effective submission rules.
  • Each author has approved the submission and all declared affiliations, contact details and contributions are accurate.
  • All citations are traceable and every table, figure, equation and supplementary file is discussed in the text.
  • Permissions, ethical approvals (where applicable), funding, conflicts of interest and related manuscripts have been disclosed.
  • Text similarity and originality have been reviewed, with sources correctly acknowledged.
  • Files are submitted via Online Submissions; the journal’s existing guidance states that online registration is free.

8. Manuscript templates and assistance

Use the ZAHRA Word or LaTeX template supplied through the journal’s Author Resources menu. When using LaTeX, retain editable source, bibliography and graphics within the project archive. Contact zahra.pdsi@gmail.com if the effective formatting rules or revision instructions require clarification.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

Privacy Statement

Personal information used in manuscript processing and journal communication.

ZAHRA: Bulletin Big Data, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, published by Asosiasi Peneliti Data Science Indonesia (PDSI), recognises that personal information provided to its editorial platform must be handled responsibly. This statement explains the purposes for which the journal may use personal information during registration, submission, review, publication, and correspondence.

1. Information associated with journal activities

  • Registration and profile data: name, email address, institutional affiliation, country, account or role information, and other details voluntarily provided in an OJS profile.
  • Submission data: author information, manuscript files, metadata, correspondence, contribution and funding statements, supplementary material, and publication-related records.
  • Editorial and peer-review data: reviewer invitations, evaluation reports, decisions, revisions, and communications held in the journal workflow.
  • Technical information: data required for the operation, security, and troubleshooting of the journal website; third-party widgets or analytics, if used, may process information under their own terms.

2. Purposes of use

  • Operate journal accounts, authenticate users, support submissions, and communicate editorial decisions.
  • Assign manuscripts for editorial assessment and peer review according to the journal’s applicable review model.
  • Prepare and publish accepted articles, including author names, affiliations, correspondence details, abstracts, references, and associated scholarly metadata.
  • Maintain an accurate record of peer review, editorial decisions, corrections, and publication history for academic accountability.
  • Respond to support requests, investigate publishing-ethics concerns, and maintain website integrity.

3. Access to information and confidentiality

Access to non-public editorial records should be restricted to persons who need the information for a legitimate journal function, such as the relevant editors, assigned reviewers, production staff, and technical administrators. Reviewers should receive only information required for assessment; author and reviewer identities must be handled in line with the journal’s double-blind review arrangements. Published article metadata, by contrast, is intentionally accessible to readers and indexing or discovery services.

4. Third-party services and external links

The ZAHRA website may link to services outside the OJS platform, including author resources, visitor-statistics widgets, persistent-identifier services, and scholarly discovery platforms. When users follow those links or load embedded third-party resources, the relevant provider may process information according to its own privacy practices. The journal should review external integrations before they are activated.

5. Retention and integrity of the scholarly record

Account data and unpublished submission information should not be retained longer than necessary for the relevant editorial, operational, or legally justified purpose. Editorial and publication records may need to be retained to support auditability, the scholarly record, disputes, and corrections. Data requested for deletion may therefore be subject to legitimate recordkeeping constraints. This statement does not claim a fixed retention period or technical deletion capability not confirmed by the platform administrator.

6. Information quality and user requests

Users should keep their profiles accurate and may request correction of inaccurate personal details, clarification of data use, or review of an account-related privacy concern. Requests affecting published author metadata or the integrity of an article will be evaluated in light of the permanent scholarly record and the journal’s correction procedures. Account deletion or anonymisation cannot be guaranteed where information must be preserved for documented editorial or legal reasons.

7. Appropriate safeguards

  • Use journal information only for legitimate editorial and publishing purposes.
  • Avoid distributing reviewer reports or author contact details outside authorised workflows.
  • Minimise unnecessary personal information in submitted files and public disclosures.
  • Report suspected unauthorised access or accidental disclosure promptly to the editorial office.
  • Review security, backups, user roles, site plugins, and any third-party analytics under the journal’s operational procedures.

8. Privacy questions and amendments

For privacy-related enquiries or requests, contact the ZAHRA editorial office at zahra.pdsi@gmail.com. Material revisions to this statement should be published transparently on the journal website.

Operational note: The scope of hosting providers, analytical cookies, technical controls, and retention schedules must be checked by the OJS administrator. This statement does not imply certification under a particular privacy regime or security standard.
